to mark a year since the killing of usama bin laden by blowing up a jet headed to the united states. the device, a new and improved underwear bomb. that's according to sources at the white house and on capitol hill. now, remember an underwear bomb failed to blow up a plane headed for detroit three years ago on christmas day. al qaeda in yemen came one a better detective ton nation system. al qaeda reports it has that new bomb and that experts are now analyzing it but they are warning of another intelligence stream. they say they there may be more of these bombs and more of these bombers out there right now. more on that in a moment. officials say the device they recovered does not contain any metal at all. so it could have gotten through our airport metal detector system. no word on whether those new body scanners would have caught it the secretary of defense put it this way: >> what this incident makes clear is that this continue to remain vigilant against those it would seek to attack this country. and we will do everything necessary to keep america safe. >> there is more. just la

think it's unlikely that mr. clen is going to go back to the united states with secretary clinton. i think that would be something that the chinese would have strong objections to. in terms of the symbol of them fielding to pressure coming from the united states. that's something at this point in time with so much change in china, not only with leadership but on the ground with bo xilai and other corruption, they can't be in a position of showing weakness in the face of the united states. i doubt whether he'll be going back at this time. what might be possible is over the a period of time for the chinese to come to the conclusion that allowing him to travel to the united states and go into permanent exile with his family would be better for them since it would at least deflect attention on his activities which i'm sure he is going to try to continue as long as he's in china. i think at this point not much will happen over the long term they may find it in their interest to allow him to leave. >> at the same time, it really was clear that he initially told them, according to all of th

the united states senate. matt by yesterday with the times said this was not a johnsonian moment, in fact it looked quite weak. historically, do you agree with matt by? do you agree with what sam stein said? how significant is it for barack obama to come out and say that he supports gay marriage, despite the fact that he says i'm going to allow states to ban it, despite the fact he said something that we all knew before he talked to robin roberts? >> well, it's not 1957, and it's not by far obviously '64 or '65 where you had federal legislation undoing jim crow and remarkably strong barriers to racial justice. those achievements are not within hailing distance of this. because what the president did was make a rhetorical statement that he -- i think sam has a good point. this is important to a lot of americans. and it signals the president's support of these initiatives, whether he actually puts any political or governmental power attempts behind it is another question. but rhetorically, this is a good thing for libertyianism, people who support the rights of all americans to participate
